Cat 6 Cable, the new competitor to Cox Cable, is a company that is betting on its broadband business.
The company has launched Cat 6 broadband and will begin offering it to customers in mid-May, with a few caveats.
It will be offering a fixed price, meaning it will cost a customer more to get a fixed rate of broadband than a monthly rate of cable internet.
Cat 6 has been making inroads in the broadband market by launching Cat 6 internet service as a separate tier in its cable service.
In its announcement announcing the launch, Cat 6 said it will launch a new tier in 2020, which it calls Cat 6 Plus, offering unlimited data speeds at no extra cost.
That service will cost $20 per month and include Cat 6 cable service, along with Cat 6 Internet.
Cat 6 Plus customers will also get access to its Cat 6 fiber service.
Cat 5 and Cat 6 will be joining the new tier of Cat 6 service.
The two cable companies announced that they will join forces in 2021, though Cat 5 and 6 won’t be making a merger.
Cat 6 is expected to have a similar footprint to Cox, which currently offers the cable and internet business.
The new cable company, which will also offer TV packages, will be based in Baltimore, Maryland.
