Posted November 16, 2018 16:47:17The Australian Broadcasting Corporation has reported that a proposed “broadband” upgrade could see the rollout of TV services in the country begin in the first quarter of 2019.
According to the report, which was published on Wednesday, a proposed new “broadcast licence” for broadband would see the cost of providing access to broadcast content increase from $7.50 per month to $12 per month.
While the plan would likely not see the Australian Government’s broadband network operational in 2021, it could “provide the network with the capacity it needs” and “allow for a more affordable rollout”, the report said.
“In the future, the ABC’s current plans are also likely to continue to increase to provide Australians with the best possible access to their local news and current affairs programs, including the ABC Digital Network,” the report added.
A spokesman for the ABC told News.co.uk the network had no comment.
